Korte animatie over gelatine

Op de expositie LEVEL UP was, naast heel veel ander werk, een aantal korte animaties van mij te zien. Elk ging over een ingrediënt waar men normaliter niet heel veel over weet. Deze gaat over gelatine, waar dat van gemaakt wordt. Als stijl had ik die vector-blije vormpjes-rode connotaties van de Mona-toetjes genomen. Onder elk stond een klein stukje informatieve tekst om verder uit te wijden over de herkomst van de producten.

Gelatin: pig skin or beef bones in your sweets

Do you like cheesecake? Pudding? Marshmellows? Gummy bears? Things that are jelly-like almost always contain this which keeps the stuff together. It is obtained from collagen which is a protein often collected from animal skins or bones. The type most used in desserts comes from pig skins. The gelatin that keeps your medication stable comes from beef bones. Sometimes, it's from horses. A long time ago, the skins and muscles of horses and cows were boiled to obtain glue. You might want to check your drinks as well, as gelatine sometimes is used for the clarification of juices. There are non-animal alternatives, of which agar-agar (from seaweed) and pectin (from fruits) are the most commonly used.
