"We are very happy with your painting. The result is an incredibly nice memento of the day, but also your presence and "seeing the painting being made live" on the day itself was a nice addition. I experienced the communication with you as nice and also the way you thought along with us was pleasant" - C & C (translated from Dutch testimonial)

The sizes:
I prefer to work with canvases of the size you see above: 60 by 50 cm.
The standard sizes, as mentioned in the packages: 60 by 50, 80 by 60, 90 by 70 cm.
Example of slightly different proportions: this one was 50 by 120 cm, alsmost like a panorama. Photo by Ernst-Jan van Pel.
General info for all packages:
• I am open to couples and polycules of all genders, preferences, colours and religions. Queer and quirky or traditional and veiled? Love is love, I would gladly come paint yours.
• We will talk about your wishes on beforehand, during an intake/consultation. I take into account who/what you envision in your painting;
• Travel and accomodation fees are added to the prices. For local Dutch weddings: I charge 0,40 per km including VAT, traveling from Dordrecht. If applicable:
a) parking fees compensation
b) hotel accomodation (if the event lasts until late in the evening, further than 1,5 hours drive)
I'm happy to travel to European countries like Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, Denmark, France. For weddings that are further than a 4 hour drive, I will formulate a package price that includes two nights in a nearby hotel (night before and night after) and additional costs.
I will always make a non-binding calculation of the total price before you sign off to anything;
• The sides of the canvas will get some colour as well; no details but for example, the blue of the sky or the green of the grass. A frame is therefore not necessary. You can hang the canvas easily, I make sure there's a wire on the back. Also on the side: the signature and the year;
• You will receive a certificate of authenticity with an official stamp and my signature, afterwards, by mail. This is a professional document in the art world, which guarentees the value of the painting;
• Part of my revenue goes to Trees for All, an organisation that plants trees. More clients and more paintings, means more trees! Since 2018 this amounts to 167 trees. This way, even a personal painting contributes to a better world;
• Would you like to know what materials I bring along? Read this blog to know what you can expect.

Snippets from several live wedding paintings that I got to paint the last few years.
Depending on your wishes, I can:
• Tailor my outfit and workplace to your theme/colours. Viking wedding? Check. Roaring twenties? Fabulous. Olive green and gold? Great;
• Come paint as a surprise. However, please make sure the location and any wedding planners know that I'll be there, to make sure there is a space reserved for my workplace. If the painting is a gift, I will assume the wishes you communicate fit the couple's taste;
• Have any postcards or fine art prints made based on the painting (prices to be calculated for each enquiry);
• Check with my framer what the options are if you'd like a frame!

How does it work?
You sure don't get married every day (or don't plan a wedding every day for your bestie), so I can very well imagine you've never hired a live artist before. In 10 steps, how I work and what you can expect. On beforehand, during, and afterwards.
Before the big day
1. You enquire through the contact form if I am still available on your day. Tip: inform six months or longer in advance for a bigger chance that I'll be able to paint! I will respond within two working days. Not available? Then an afterpaint, based on wedding photos, might be an option.
2. We pick a time for a videocall to go through all your wishes and options, together. Based on our conversation, I draw up an offer, which is valid for a fortnight. If you accept, you will receive an invoice and payment link for the 30% deposit to lock your booking.
To avoid disappointments: don't wait too long. A date is booked after the deposit has been processed.
3. About three weeks before your day, we get back in touch to finalise details and practical matters.

Details showing my different styles of painting (rough brush strokes, dots, thicker blobs, very detailed).
During the big day
4. I arrive well in time, preferably 1-2 hours before the moment, to build up my workspace and paint the first layers.
5. Enjoy! Be in the moment, experience your day worry-free. I know which family member or wedding planner I can tap on their shoulder if I have a question.
During the chosen moment, I take photos and videos to base the painting on, for example:
- exchanging the vows
- exchanging the rings
- ceremony exit
- cutting the cake
- the first dance
Is a videographer or photographer present? Then I will check in with them, so that we don't get in each other's way.
During the day, you as the wedding couple are welcome to come and take a peek, or maybe you'd prefer a big surprise at the end of the day?
6. At the end of the afternoon or evening I present the canvas!

The photos you see above show a few steps from the process: first the set-up and background, then people and details are added, and at the end of the day a presentation of the painting to the wedding couple. Photos by Larissa (SOAP Fotografie).
After the big day
7. With the premium package, I take some extra love and time afterwards for all the tiny details. The package includes a round of feedback on the day itself ('can Grandma be added?') and a round of feedback for final small details once I have rendered the painting ('can one of the clouds be removed?'). I send a photo at completion as a final check.
8. A premium artwork get a protective layer of varnish. If you live nearby in the Netherlands (Dordrecht, Rotterdam, Breda area), I'd happily come hand over the painting personally. Otherwise, the painting will be sent to you well-packaged as a registered, insured parcel.
9. Within a few days I will edit the timelapse/montage (if there would've been the opportunity for one). This will be sent to you digitally. A nice way to look back at the day!
10. Within a week after the date, you will receive an invoice for the remaining 70%, including a payment link for easy processing. You will receive the certificate of authenticity by post.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about live paintings:
Are you available on our day?
I'd be happy to check! Contact me directly and I will let you know within two working days whether I'm available. If I am fully booked for a certain period, that's also mentioned on the contact page.
For popular (Friday and Saturday) wedding dates in summer, it is advised to enquire six months or more in advance for a greater chance that I'm available. For some specific dates, I get 5 - 10 enquiries. So be sure to pin my examples on your Pinterest inspiration board, but also check my availability in advance!

What if you're unavailable on our big day?
Oh no, such a pity! But unfortunately, I can't split into multiple persons. Three options are:
a) I will make an afterpaint for you. This is a studio commissioned wedding painting, made afterwards, based on one or multiple professional photo(s) (with the photographer's permission). Finished within 1 month (November - April) or 2 months (during high season) after receiving the photo(s);
b) I note you as a back-up option and only contact you later in case of cancellation or rescheduling of the booking already in place (this rarely happens);
c) I can think along if there is a colleague that might fit your wishes as an alternative. At short notice, however, there is only a small chance that someone else is available. Also, colleagues have their own style and prices of course.

What if we have to reschedule the wedding or if you fall ill yourself?
Hey, this is not going to happen, okay! Should a wedding unfortunately have to be rescheduled, I can always think along, see if I'm available on the new date. And I very rarely get sick, but am happy to offer an afterpaint should I suddenly turn out to be human.
If the painting job is cancelled just before the wedding (never happened before), I do have to keep the 30% deposit.

What if we face measures because of covid-19?
No worries, I'm vaccinated and take measurements into consideration. I will keep my distance and may wear a face mask if required. We can discuss any other measures if applicable.
Is the painting dry yet?
Considering I work with acrylic paint, it dries quite quickly. Often, within 30 minutes after the last brushstroke, it is safe to hold or transport the canvas. Should it still be wet when I present it, I always give a little warning about that (would be a shame of your neat suit anyway if paint stains it).
Who are you? How would you describe your style?
With me, you get a beautiful impression. Sometimes painted more quickly, a bit more impressionistic with rough brushstrokes or dots, sometimes quite realistic. I learn a lot from how lights and shadows work. I can tailor my style a bit to your taste. Do you want brighter colours or a more limited colour palette, a bit more playful or a bit more serious?
I graduated from Art Academy St. Joost (2015) in Breda, the Netherlands. See this page for more information about me. I am one of the very few courtroom sketch artists in the Netherlands, so painting portraits that really look like you, under a time pressure, is one of my specialities. My paintings won't be cartoony with thick outlines or a graphic vibe. When I'm painting lovely trees and backgrounds, I feel a bit like Bob Ross.
The wedding couples on my paintings are the focal points, with more details and contrast than the rest. I'd like to make a valuable, detailed memento of your day.
At the start of your big day, you can already see a base layer of colour on the canvas, so I can immediately play with lighter and darker colours. Often this is orange-brown (burnt sienna), making the natural colours stand out beautifully on top. But I like to tailer this to the ambiance of your event and your taste.

Can we put in our dog? She's important to us but won't be there
Haha, sure, don't forget to send me a picture and I will include her. Or your horse or cats ;)
What should we arrange for the day, what do you expect from us?
The most important thing is that the venue (or planner) knows I am coming, and that there are a few square meters for me to work with. Ideally somewhere where I don't get in anybody's way, that I have some space to move around, take a step back to evaluate, and have good visibilty.
I can be featured in a prominent spot, or stay a bit more in the background, whatever you'd prefer. When it's raining, I like to work under a roof or tent, and in bright sunlight I prefer to paint in the shade.
In terms of food: is a vegan meal an option with your caterer? Please let me know if it's better if I bring my own food otherwise. And I like to drink icetea or some juice (although sometimes I'm so focused that I forget to drink, haha). No alcohol please, unless I don't have to drive that night and you don't mind a painting getting very eh... modern.
I bring and wrap up all my materials: a wooden easel, the canvas, a folding table and a large suitcase with my paints and equipment. Because of the weight of these things, it's practical if I can park nearby or if I could do some loading and unloading. If your event takes place in the evening or in a dark atmospheric room, a nearby power socket is handy (for the lamp).
We schedule a meeting at about three weeks prior to the wedding, where we can go over all the practical points together, like the planning, parking, who I can check-in with, who takes care of the painting at the end of the evening, etcetera.

How long does it take for you to finish our painting?
That depends on the package you choose. I usually start with rough outlines and shapes and work with bigger brushes in the beginning, and adding details layer by layer, while I turn in the bigger brushes for smaller ones.
With the Champagne package I spend 4 to 5 hours painting on location, with the Diamond package I spend up to 7,5 hours, and with the Over the (honey)moon package I take the wedding painting back to my studio after your big day, to do touch-ups and give it lots of details afterwards. It will be completely finished within one or two months.
I always like to arrive at least 45-60 minutes earlier than the chosen moment, to set up. I will also spend some time afterwards wrapping and tidying up.

We are having a destination wedding, outside of the Netherlands, will you come and paint there too?
Sure! I'm packing my suitcases as we speak. My English is fluent, my French and German are sufficient. Please contact me for a personal calculation of the travel and accomodation fees, as they depend on many variables.
How would it work with the payment?
In order to secure your date and for me to be able to prepare for your big day, there's a 30% deposit. You will receive an invoice and a payment link for easy processing. The remaining 70% will be due after I've painted your day.
Tip: suggest a live wedding painting as a gift from your friends and family! It is also possible to spread the final 70% in two instalments with a payment plan. You can request this before the wedding and a total of 5% will be added.

How much does a live wedding painting cost?
A rough indication: my prices vary between 770,- and 1470,- including VAT but not including the fee for travel and accomodation. The price of a live wedding painting depends on the size, the details and how long I paint, and where the location is.
I will always calculate a non-binding total price for your painting before you sign off to anything.
You can check the options in my packages above. Every year I update my prices on January 1st. All prices are in euros.

Do we have to pose for the painting?
The moments of your choice (for example, exchanging the rings, the first kiss, ceremony exit) are often quite brief. Maybe ten seconds or a few minutes. I take reference photos myself, on the spot. When something is in motion (walking, dancing), I also take short video clips. I will choose a nice still frame from the video to work with. These are not professional wedding photos or videos, but purely my references to work with for the painting.
I can also join a photoshoot you're doing with the photographer, for example during the first look before the ceremony.
It depends a bit on the setting and wishes whether it is convenient to pose for a while. The reference images are shot quickly, so you don't have to sit or stand still for long. It's all about enjoying your day! Some settings might require more time, for example, if you'd like to do a "dip kiss", you'd need to be able to hold that for a few seconds extra so I can get some good shots.

What if you spill paint? And doesn't the paint smell?
I use odourless acrylic paint. Under the easle (unless on grass) I put a vinyl sheet or carpet, that will catch any paint drips. No worries about that monumental castle floor or the rented decking!
In the unlikely event of something happening, I have good liability insurance. Which, by the way, I've never had to use yet.

What kinD of materials do you use as a live wedding painter?
I've written a Medium blog where I talk about this in depth, feel free to take a peek.
Are you LGBTQIA+ FRIENDLY?
Yes! I am open to couples and polycules of all genders, preferences, colours and religions. Queer and quirky or traditional and veiled? Love is love, I would gladly come paint yours.
